Initial Teacher Training (ITT)

Inspired to teach in Essex?

If you have a degree and would like to become a primary or secondary school teacher, the Professional Learning Network (PLN) is here to support and guide you, every step of the way. We offer Initial Teacher Training through School Direct placements, a one-year programme in which candidates undertake on-the-job-training in at least two schools in Mid Essex across the school year.

You will receive support from experienced teachers to help develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours you need to become a successful practitioner. The programme results in candidates receiving Qualified Teacher Status, with the expectation that you will go on to work in one of the schools you trained in, although this is not guaranteed.

We are different to many other training organisations as we can support you with your induction as a Newly Qualified Teacher as well as with Continuing Professional Development through the Professional Learning Network.

How to apply for Initial Teacher Training in Essex

Candidates are invited to apply through our lead teaching school, Lyons Hall Primary and Secondary Partnership, through the UCAS website, UCAS code 1JW.

In which school does the teacher training take place?

There are plenty of teaching opportunities in our primary and secondary schools in Braintree, Coggeshall, Halstead, Hedingham and Witham plus surrounding villages.

Although the initial application is made to Lyons Hall Primary and Secondary Partnership, the School Direct place will be offered in one of the 30+ partner schools in our teaching school alliance.

Allocation of places reflects proximity, preference and a balance of places across the schools.
